Infrastructure from the air

Who we are and what we do

Essential Water delivers safe, reliable and high-quality water and wastewater treatment services to approximately 18,000 people across Far West NSW, including Broken Hill, Menindee, Silverton, Sunset Strip and nearby rural areas.

Every drop tells a story.

Water is vital, from every shower to every cup of tea. Our people work around the clock maintaining and operating the infrastructure, treatment plants and services that deliver clean water that customers can trust.

Our Broken Hill and Silverton customers are supplied with water from the Murray River, via a pipeline from Wentworth that is owned and operated by WaterNSW. Our Menindee customers are supplied with water from the Darling River. We operate a network of dams, water treatment plants, wastewater treatment plants, reservoirs, water and sewage pumping stations, mains and related infrastructure.

But our role goes beyond what comes out of the tap. We also manage everything that goes down the drain. Our wastewater systems and treatment plants operate day and night to safely treat wastewater and protect the environment.

It’s not just about pipes and pumps, it’s about people. Our operators are on the ground 24/7, supported by a dedicated customer service team ready to help with bills, outages, connections, inspections, and more.

We are an operating division of Essential Energy – a NSW Government State Owned Corporation.
