Planned Water Outages

In order to maintain our network, we are required to carry out work on our water mains, which may cause supply interruptions. These interruptions can occur over a period of weeks, depending on the scale of work that needs to be completed.

One of the reasons we might need to do this is to prevent repeated bursts on a particular section of main which causes further inconvenience as there is no way to prepare for these unplanned outages.

What you need to do to prepare for the planned outage:

  • Fill your kettle or jug in the morning prior to 8:30am, when the water supply is generally turned off for outages.
  • Place a full bucket of water near your toilet to assist with flushing during the day.
  • Fill your bath tub or sink with water so that it can be accessed during the day if required. NOTE: never leave a tub of water unattended if you have small children or pets in your home.
  • Fill your pet’s bowls with water in the morning prior to 8:30am, when the water supply is generally turned off for outages.
  • Do not use appliances that require water to operate during the outage. Running without water may damage them. Appliances that typically require water to operate include air conditioners, dishwashers and washing machines.
  • Phone our Customer Service advisors on 13 23 91 if you have any further questions.

What you need to do once the water supply has been turned back on:

  • Run an external tap until the water runs clear.
  • Remember to run the tap slowly to avoid causing damage with the sudden rush of air that can come out of your pipes after an outage.
  • Phone our Customer Service advisors on 13 23 91 if you have any further questions.

We assure you that our field staff are doing everything they can to get your water back on as quickly as possible each day, and are endeavouring to complete this work in the shortest time frame possible. Essential Water thanks you for your understanding during this time.
